There is a strange unwritten rule around buying cars that buying a second-hand car has much less prestige than buying new. Now, we freely admit that in some areas of life, buying new is definitely the only option. You can't buy second-hand food, for example.

But there are plenty of times when buying second-hand isn't something we worry about. When you buy a house there is usually prestige in buying one that has been around for a while. And there is always a massive market for second-hand books.

Model-for-model, buying used will always mean you can get more for your money. A large used car will generally even be cheaper than a small new car. Bear that in mind if you are planning for the future. More car is always a good thing.
